LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Congress must take action in oil crisis

Both the Republicans and the Democrats are responsible for the high gas prices. Members of Congress have sat on their duffs with a dog and pony show questioning the oil executives on three occasions for a sound bite, without taking action.

What they should do is say “enough is enough” and immediately pass laws and strip away all oil subsidies, and then tax the billions of dollars in profits the oil companies make every quarter.

It appears that many of these members of Congress are in the pockets of the oil companies and are accepting tens of thousands of dollars in campaign contributions to give Big Oil what it wants. But if they do the people’s business and remove these freeloading subsidies and begin taxing those obscene profits, the price per gallon will come down dramatically, especially when these oil giants see that Congress means business.

Do your job, Congress! Stop packing your accounts with oil money and pass these laws now.
