LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

‘Change’ must mean fewer lobbyists

In conservative figures, there are about 35,000 registered lobbyists scooting in and around Washington, D.C. This is about 66 lobbyists for every member of Congress. Not included in these numbers are the lobbyists running around in state and local governments.

These lobbyists make big salaries and have big expense accounts to wine and dine the protectors of our Constitution. Obviously, the will of the people comes in second or lower to the throngs of lobbyists who have the ear of our “protectors.” The betting folks here in Las Vegas would say we (the American voters) aren’t the favorites in this game.

In this light, I would ask the proponent of “change,” Sen. Barack Obama, what he might do, specifically, to change this unfair system. I would ask why the representatives we vote for to look after us cannot do so on their own and without all the “outside help.”

Is this asking too much? Can we really have change and not change the existing system?
