Let Big Oil do its job: Drill and research

Your June 12 editorial headlined “GOP blocks price relief” is the same old editorial you have written over the past five years or more using a different context and changing the words around.

To me the welfare of Americans is more important in this oil crisis than environmentally sensitive areas of this country.

This energy problem really got hotter in 1995 when Bill Clinton turned down oil drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge because of the strong lobbying in Washington. From that day forward members of Congress have been fighting one another over alternative fuel solutions, which is why we are where we are today.

Sure, it’s easy to blame President Bush, Big Oil and anybody else to keep this argument going with no solutions.

So what is the answer? Let the oil companies drill in all the areas in this country. With that announcement, you would see a big drop in oil prices.

Also, give large tax breaks now to the companies that can come up with alternative fuels. We must open all avenues to fuel alternatives and must stop the bickering in Congress, or else in 13 more years gas will be $15 a gallon.
