LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Leave the tax breaks out of bailout plan

The Senate proposes to add tax breaks that are not fully paid for to the $700 billion bailout plan to entice more members of the House to vote for the bill.

We are running a huge deficit and these tax breaks would only add to it. There are alternative plans that don’t contain tax breaks and wouldn’t cost $700 billion of taxpayers’ money.

Yet, just as with the 2002 vote for invading Iraq, the Senate and House members cannot show enough guts to consider alternatives. Instead, they will be stampeded into voting for this plan.

We really do need new leaders, in the presidency and in the Congress. By the way, neither John McCain nor Barack Obama has distinguished himself in dealing with this issue.
