LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

GOP ticket is not built for the 21st century

Vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin just might be the change every Republican is excited about but not the kind of change one wants. After all, with a 72-year-old presidential nominee such as John McCain, change is inevitable.

As one reaches age 60 and beyond, rapid change, both mentally and physically, is a given. At this advanced age most individuals become far more reliant on replicating experiences and much less on learning or entertaining new ideas and concepts.

Are 30 years of experience sufficient in a brave new world, a world of 6 billion people, a world of dynamic global economies, and a world where America is not the dominant player? A world where China is rapidly moving toward world dominance in manufacturing and military might? A world where the enemy is a diffused group of fanatical Islamic terrorists scattered in 80 countries, not just in Iraq? A world that did not exist 10, 15 or 20 years ago? What is the value, now, of 30 years of congressional experience?

New thinking may be the answer. Individuals normally vote for the presidential candidate, not the vice presidential candidate, but in this election, for die-hard Republicans, Sarah Palin may well be viewed as both.

As presidential candidates go, Barack Obama has no equal when it comes to innovative thoughts and a new direction for America. And for those voters who feel Obama is a little short on experience, take a really good look at one heartbeat away, Sarah Palin.
