The rehabilitation of Oscar Goodman is complete. The mean mayor who once wanted to ship the homeless off to Jean, who once called them “ailing beasts” in a prepared speech and who has almost reveled in his insensitivity to society’s less fortunate has found redemption. The Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth, which does wonderful work in the community, must be desperate for a big name to raise money because the group has tapped Goodman as its 2009 honoree. Oh, it’s a roast, and I am sure some of Goodman’s comments will be exhumed. But no one can ever again say he hasn’t been a sensitive mayor. Absolution has been granted, the sinner has been forgiven and the price was only a few pieces of silver.
