LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Energy bill doesn’t address real issues

The energy bill Congress is trying to pass before the election is nothing more than a huge pork barrel project for Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid. The country has an oil crisis, and all this bill does is create a huge, government-subsidized alternative power industry that has nothing to do with oil.

The politicians who buy into this so-called compromise are being given an increase in drilling, as long as it occurs 50 miles offshore. But oil developed 50 miles offshore will mostly be uneconomical to produce. The American public should not be fooled into thinking this will increase drilling and reduce gas prices.

If Congress wants to sell out to the big spenders, it should at least get development of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and Western oil shale in return.
