LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Don’t let Bush bamboozle taxpayers again

The recent crisis concerning a bailout of Wall Street — AIG, Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae — is just the latest failure of the Bush presidency. I’ve heard Bush speak of the urgency for this bailout, but what I’ve not heard is who will be held accountable.

Once again we taxpayers will foot the bill for the current failed administration for decades to come. We are spending about $8 billion a month for a war that we were lied to about, and the administration told America we had to attack Iraq quickly. Both parties agreed, and here we are, years later, bogged down with no end in sight.

Now we are told we need to bail out the people who caused this current “crisis,” with the threat of gloom and doom if we don’t. What’s the rush this time? Don’t we need more information before we spend $700 billion of taxpayer money? Is the Bush administration to be trusted again?

I want to know the details. Will the corporate chief executives be held accountable? Will the billions of dollars they recklessly squandered be paid back? These are questions Americans need answered before we are rushed into something based on the words of a president who, judging from past experience, can’t be trusted. We deserve much more than his word.
