The problem with e-mail is fairly clear: It’s abused.
I remember the days when it was nice to get a letter or a short note written with paper and pen, with maybe an interesting or humorous article. Nowadays, it’s typically impersonal e-mailing, and one person after another is forwarding silly jokes or off-color humor. I also receive a lot of lambasting of the two major political parties.
Why, if people are going to use e-mail, can’t they at least be more original with their thoughts — informative, humorous or whatever. Many times I have e-mailed what I thought was something poignant, and there was no response. I even started wondering if it was important to mention something at all, as though it were falling on deaf ears.
I am to the point where I delete e-mails before I open them. I just hope they’re not all that important.
