As a descendant of Native Americans and Europeans who have been here since the 17th century, I am a proud American who is proud of Arizona for taking a strong immigration stand and doing what the special-interest-oriented federal government is too spineless to do.
I believe immigration has had a very important role in our nation’s development. Immigrants from history have added to our rich melting pot, meanwhile respecting our laws, culture, language and citizens.
However, I just don’t see that same respect from today’s immigrants. Maybe it’s time to shut the doors, turn inward, and focus on improving the lives of Americans who are already here. It’s not offensive to say this; it’s truly patriotic, and it’s right.
