The Real ID driver’s license should be of significant help in the enforcement of current immigration laws while avoiding the issue of racial profiling. Employers would be able to hire with high assurance that the worker is a legal resident of the United States.
Apprehended criminals and traffic law violators without a driver’s license could be referred to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The extra time and cost to obtain the Real ID license is clearly justified. It would also contribute to increased homeland security.
