LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Wynn thinking about running a profitable business

A story in Saturday’s Las Vegas Sun, about Wynn Resorts owner Steve Wynn’s talk of moving the corporate headquarters to Macau, was headlined “What is Steve Wynn thinking?”

Here’s the answer: Steve Wynn has a business to run. That means he is responsible to his stockholders to make a profit.

When the government in this country enacts legislation making that goal almost impossible, a business owner is obligated to go elsewhere. That is the bottom line.

For those of you championing new programs like health care, don’t complain when businesses decide to go overseas. You wouldn’t want to work next year and make 10 percent to 20 percent less and have a smile on your face. You wouldn’t want to work 40-hour weeks and see your take-home pay slashed to provide goods and services for those who don’t want to make an effort. Don’t expect Wynn to accept that either.

You might not like him, but Wynn has employed tens of thousands of people for a long time and has done more good for this community than President Barack Obama, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid or House Speaker Nancy Pelosi ever have or could.

So if you think government is your salvation, keep supporting those business-killing policies. If you want a job with a solid future at a long-term U.S. company — you’d better think again before you vote for these big-government politicians.
