LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

America helped Wynn, now he should pay it back

Regarding Joseph Schillmoeller’s Tuesday letter to the editor, headlined “Wynn thinking about running a profitable business”:

Schillmoeller defended Steve Wynn’s talk of moving his corporate headquarters out of America to China. He blames the government for enacting legislation that makes profits almost impossible.

However, Schillmoeller misses the real point. Wynn made his fortune in America, assisted by dedicated American workers at every level. At the least, he owes allegiance to the country that enabled him to make his fortune and to the employees who helped him achieve success.

The United States is far from top countries in taxation rates; companies still make huge profits in America. Wynn needs to drop his spoiled-child act and support the country he owes his allegiance and fortune to.

Finally, if companies cannot afford to pay a living wage and minimum benefits to their employees, they are not a “real” business and have been artificially subsidized by depriving workers of decent wages and benefits. These companies will need to improve their operations or simply shut down.
