LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Scapegoating drugmakers is unfair to them, us

Regarding this week’s hepatitis C lawsuit verdict in District Court:

I couldn’t believe the assignment of liability to the drugmakers in this case. It wouldn’t matter if they delivered the drug in gallon cans, the use of the drug is the responsibility of the members of the medical profession administering them.

I can certainly understand the sympathy for the plaintiffs in this case, but the judgment is the most unfair, misdirected verdict I have heard since the “hot coffee” verdict against McDonald’s years ago.

Must we sue carmakers for allowing cars to go faster than the driver can respond to in situations?

Drugmakers carry liability insurance just as doctors do, and the cost of the premiums and the awards in wrong verdicts such as this are always passed on to the paying public. What a travesty of justice this verdict is.
