University Medical Center, the county-run hospital, has gotten a lot of negative publicity lately, so I thought I would tell you about the excellent care my family received.
On March 5, my grandson was in a terrible motorcycle accident and was taken to the trauma intensive care unit at UMC. He was there for six weeks and then transferred to a rehabilitation center, where he took a turn for the worse and was rushed back to UMC and placed in the medical intensive care unit.
The care he got was unbelievable. The nurses, doctors and respiratory technicians were wonderful. They kept us informed every step of the way, especially his doctor.
If it was not for the excellent care he received, we would have lost him. He has a long way to go but he is back at a rehabilitation center and is making progress every day.
