LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

People in politics are far too quick to point the finger

One problem I have observed regarding government and politics is something that’s been prevalent for a long time. It seems like our elected representatives never take responsibility for their actions when things go wrong, and a lot has gone wrong considering the current state of the union.

It is only when someone is caught red-handed in a sex or drug scandal that they admit to a mistake, and even then, they have a team of public relations people or spokespersons attempt to minimize the damage, or cover it up.

It’s just human nature to point the finger, because it’s difficult to say “I was wrong.” It’s like the old saying, “When you point a finger, you have three other fingers pointing back at you.”

And it’s people in government and private sectors who don’t accept the blame. That means we are all responsible to one degree or another.

I don’t have children, but I would think it would be quite a challenge to bring one up in a righteous way, because it doesn’t take them long to see the ways of the world, and the inconsistencies of our teaching versus what we practice.

Maybe when it comes to the honesty and integrity of men and women, this is as good as it gets. It doesn’t seem to be getting any better, but I do have hope for the future.
