LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Kagan’s experience makes her a good candidate for job

I read with disbelief Harvey Talbert’s Tuesday letter to the editor, headlined “Kagan lacks right experience to be on the Supreme Court,” where he equated Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan’s lack of judicial experience to the lack of physical dexterity of an inexperienced surgeon.

I would like to remind the Sun’s readers that judges use their brains, not their hands, to decide cases.

Judges apply the law. All judges and lawyers study law in law school. Just because one does not have judicial experience does not mean that he or she does not know the law.

I would also remind readers that Chief Justices William Rehnquist and Earl Warren had no previous judicial experience. I think it is refreshing to have a Supreme Court justice from outside the “judicial monastery.”
