LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Voting out our representatives sends a message

I hope, with all the attention paid to Congress through this tough economic time, that people are beginning to understand that Congress is what matters, not the president, whether his name is George W. Bush or Barack Obama.

The legislative branch (Congress) makes all laws and controls all spending. We may hate Congress and like our individual representative, but we should be disgusted with both. With all that has and continues to go wrong, we cannot afford to let our own representatives off the hook.

I cannot name one member of Congress who I believe has consistently and loudly condemned the way Congress spends money recklessly and then doesn’t raise taxes to pay for the spending. We must hold them responsible, including our own representatives.

For me that means Sens. Harry Reid, John Ensign and Rep. Shelley Berkley don’t have any chance of getting my vote. Why? Because their job performances don’t warrant my support or vote.

The Tea Party movement is a message of sorts but the real message we need to send is that we don’t like our representatives’ job performance and we are firing them.
