A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for early July for a man being charged in connection with the shooting death of his girlfriend and then having a standoff with police last week in Las Vegas.

Justice of the Peace Melanie Andress-Tobiasson set the hearing for 9 a.m. July 8 in Las Vegas Justice Court for Michael Long, 28, Las Vegas, who is being held in connection with the death of Stefany Sommers.

Long has been charged in connection with Sommers' death for murder with use of a deadly weapon. He has also been charged with a count of attempted murder with use of a deadly weapon, assault with a deadly weapon, resisting a public officer and discharge of a firearm in a structure for shooting at Metro Police Officer Aaron Lee.

Long is being held without bail in the Clark County Detention Center.

Sommers was found in the master bedroom of a home that she and Long shared with three other roommates, according to police. About 8:45 p.m. May 17, police responded to reports of shots fired at the apartment complex at 3804 Terrazzo Ave., which is near Las Vegas Boulevard and Cheyenne Avenue.

Police said Long broke out all the windows and when officers arrived, he fired at their patrol cars.

Officer Lee returned fire, but Long was not hit. Long barricaded himself inside the apartment and SWAT negotiators arrives, police said.

Long surrendered to police about four hours after the standoff began. He was taken into custody shortly after 1 a.m. May 18, then investigators found Sommers dead in the master bedroom of the home with multiple gunshot wounds, police said.
