Words have been said and written criticizing Republican U.S. Senate candidate Sue Lowden’s reference to bartering in exchange for products and services. I have experience with a bartering club in Northern California.
Members included established businesses, entrepreneurs, professional service providers, fruit and vegetable growers, retailers, skilled craftsmen, families and others. Bartering serves a useful purpose under most economic conditions for a variety of reasons.
As a small-business owner I was contacted by a nationally recognized bartering company, ITEX, to join its trading group. Many bartering groups are active and successful throughout the United States and Canada.
During downturns in the business cycle, bartering keeps money in one’s pocket, offers flexibility and savings. Don’t discount bartering until you have tried it.
