UPDATED STORY: Coroner identifies teen killed in North Las Vegas shooting

A 16-year-old boy died in surgery Wednesday night after North Las Vegas Police responded to a call of a shooting in the 5100 block of Cross Ranch Street, authorities said.

Police received a call about 6:40 p.m. of shots fired and a disturbance in the street, police spokesman Sgt. Tim Bedwell said. When officers arrived, they found the teen with apparent gunshot injuries, he said.

The teenager was taken to University Medical Center, where he later died, Bedwell said.

No suspects have been identified, and police were talking to witnesses in the area, Bedwell said.

The victim’s identity and cause of death will be released by the Clark County Coroner’s Office after death notifications are made and an autopsy has been completed, police said.

The incident took place near North 5th Street and East Washburn Road, not far from Mojave High School.

It was the eighth slaying in North Las Vegas this year. Anyone with information is asked to call North Las Vegas Police at (702) 633-9111 or, to remain anonymous, Crime Stoppers at (702) 385-5555. Tips leading to an arrest or an indictment called into Crime Stoppers could result in a cash reward.
