Newt Gingrich has risen rapidly to the top of the GOP ticket. If he continues to speak on social issues such as the plight of poor people, food stamps and job opportunities for the poor, he, hopefully, will not be there for long. Thursday in Iowa he said that poor kids have no work, no work habits and only get cash through illegal activities.
He suggests that poor kids mop floors and clean bathrooms. He has attacked food stamps because, in his words, people use them to take trips to Hawaii. He also has accused millionaires of receiving and using food stamps.
The Republican Party has been very callous toward the poor and middle class. Gingrich redefines the word callous. Even mainstream Republicans must see his views as extreme.
