Letter to the editor:

Iraq invasion was worth supporting

I supported the Iraq invasion. Saddam Hussein was the incarnation of evil, a barbarian, a murderer, and a destabilizer of the entire region and the world. After his invasion of Kuwait and the rape and pillage of that nation by his army, it didn’t take a sophisticated student of political philosophy or science to realize that the world would be better off without him.

The mobilization for the Gulf War and Hussein’s humiliating defeat by the coalition involving America were great victories for all freedom lovers of the globe — but Hussein remained, as did his evil intentions and actions.

The reported news that Hussein had a stockpile of weapons of mass destruction was a secondary reason why this murdering tyrant had to be eliminated. After all, he had used chemical weapons on his own Kurdish population and the Iranians — there was no question that he would use these weapons if he had them. Those who doubted this had to be blind.

Now the dirty work has been done, and Hussein is gone. That great menace has been extinguished — good riddance.

For all of those who dwell on the WMD story to try and defend their position that the Iraq War was a mistake, you can be forgiven for your short-sightedness. Leaving Iraq at some time was a must. It has now been accomplished. Of course there will be consequences in leaving, as we are witnessing. But intelligent people everywhere could predict that outcome. Saddam Hussein is gone forever. That in itself is victory!
