Letter to the editor:

Letting bad deeds go unpunished

Are we in such an economic downturn that we are willing to give the green light to domestic violence? What type of message are we really sending out to the very people we want to entice to visit our lovely city? If you have money and your profession can generate revenue for our city, then it is OK to beat your wife in front of your children?

If I had a domestic violence charge pending, I would demand the same sweetheart deal that was given to Floyd Mayweather Jr. This man has been thumbing his nose at the judicial system for years, with no real consequences, and once again, we have decided to make special accommodations for him. Why? Because we need the revenue.

The message is clear in this town: Money is more important than the integrity of the judicial system.

The sad thing about this entire mess: He doesn’t even have a fight scheduled. So why can’t he do his time? Oh, I forgot, he has to be outside of jail to train. Give me a break.

Bottom line: We put all of our eggs in one basket and are now paying the cost for those decisions. But let’s not be willing to ignore the good people of this city who are not beating their spouses/partners and who are honest and working hard to make a difference and willing to go that extra mile to protect the integrity of what is right and wrong.
