I was fervently shaking my head in approval while reading Paul Takahashi’s article, “Schools are ‘better than where we started.’ ”
I was an involved parent at one of the turnaround schools in North Las Vegas last year. My son’s teacher, Paula Barry, Principal Keith France and every staff member I got to work with made learning for my son a wonderful experience. I was enchanted to watch a very effective, new (to me) model of both behavior management and best teaching practices in action.
I know from personal experience that the Clark County School District is turning things around and has schools, teachers and staff to be proud of. But parents need to get involved — we have much to learn to be a part of such a wonderful team of child advocates.
