Letter to the editor:

Our infrastructure can create jobs

What is a job creator? How does one create jobs? How come it’s not currently being done?

If jobs are to be created in the private sector, will those jobs be for something that hasn’t been invented yet? Will the jobs be for a company not created yet? Will this be a product or service not thought of yet? Where is all the capital going to come from to start these new companies? Lending is tight right now. If the owners of these new companies have enough money and don’t need to borrow any, what have they been doing since the recession started?

Existing companies are not going to hire any new people unless there is a marketplace for their products or services. There are too many unemployed, with little extra money to buy anything. It’s a “Catch-22” situation.

The government is the only entity big enough to create projects large enough to put people to work immediately. Our infrastructure is the obvious answer. It’s $3 trillion behind in needed maintenance and upgrades. A big stimulus is the only answer. A new president is certainly not the answer.
