letter to the editor:

Thank goodness for plastic gun ban

Rest easy, Sun readers. Congress has passed legislation renewing the ban on plastic guns. It’s been keeping me awake at night worrying about those plastic guns that are so popular as Christmas gifts for children and adults all over this great nation. I will sleep like a baby every night knowing that plastic guns are out of the hands of innocents and criminals alike.

The NRA is relieved, as well. It might have been imagining that in the wake of the first anniversary of the Newtown, Conn., massacre, Congress might have been considering action on real guns. But Congress, in its admirable brotherhood with the NRA, decided that a token banning of some kind of gun would assuage left-wingers.

Who now dares to say that this do-nothing Congress can do nothing? So, as the holiday season bathes us in good cheer, let’s remember these heartwarming lines from the great Charles Dickens’ gun-free novel “A Christmas Carol” — “God bless us, every one.”

I think we need that blessing. Don’t you?
