Regarding Glen Crabtree’s letter “Don’t let Nevada be like California”:

I came to small-town (one traffic light) Las Vegas in the summer of 1959. Nevadans were generally conservative, and rural folks outnumbered city residents. Taxes were low.

Then there was an influx of people from Southern California who could sell their small home for two or three times as much as the cost of one in Las Vegas. Taxes increased in Nevada to respond to the demands for public services.

The current wave of people from Southern California are leaving there to escape high taxes. Will they examine the relationship between their politics and high taxes?
