Years ago, I listened as so many accused railroad workers of “featherbedding.”

For so many years, I have watched government workers, at all levels, put railroad workers to shame. Members of our Legislature demonstrate, every session, an intent to drag their heels until the last hours of the session, then suddenly burst into action.

You may ask, “What is so important during those last hours?” It’s to push for annual sessions.

After squandering the entire session, they have decided to go into a special session. We don’t need another bill that designates a state bug, or any other feel-good, useless legislation, but, until the time comes when our legislators stop defying us, stop showing such arrogance and contempt toward those who put them in office, and pay their way, we shall continue to hear, “We need annual sessions!”

Annual sessions will only produce demands for yearlong sessions.

As I count, this is the 23rd regular session that I have witnessed. Every session has produced some truly witless legislation. This one has proved to be no different.

And, again, as I have demanded so many times in the past, “Why aren’t our lawmakers tested for alcohol and drugs?”
