The Television Consumer Freedom Act, recently proposed by Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., that would allow cable customers to buy channels a la carte, is great.

If consumers were allowed to purchase channels a la carte, they would obviously have further control over content viewed compared with the current system, in which customers have bundled services. Many channels mixed in aren’t necessarily what viewers want to see.

The end result is a high cable bill that averages about $90 per customer but with channels and content they aren’t interested in.

This piece of legislation, even though it has some local network affiliates up in arms, should be passed because of content control and lower prices. Consumers need to have the control, not cable providers and networks.
