Letter to the editor:

Wheeler coverage fails the smell test

Assemblyman Jim Wheeler represents the Constitution’s “government of, for, by the people.” His unfortunate illustration should have been diffused at the origin. Like many politicians, including Obama, Sandoval, Reid and Heller, he got his foot in his mouth in the heat of the moment.

Would he vote for slavery? Of course not. That was never the issue. The issue is he listens to his constituents, explores the issue, informs himself and votes accordingly.

I have to believe this outrage by the media is an organized attempt to rid the Legislature of a man who has not kowtowed to the special interests, lobbies and PACs.

Why didn’t all this come up after the Storey County meeting. Why now? Why did the YouTube video suddenly get coverage because someone inadvertently watched it and picked up on the comment?

Political assassination? This stinks. It is interesting that Kelly Kite, a former Assemblyman and Douglas County commissioner whose voting records demonstrate his leaning to special interests, lobbies and PACs, is trying to dig up issues against Wheeler long past addressed by the Legislature.

Didn’t Kite come to Las Vegas during the election to meet with power players for support? Las Vegas is a long way from District 39. Kite announced he would run against Wheeler in 2014. Add it up. No wonder good people do not want to run for office.

Aren’t we as responsible voters and citizens supposed to see an issue in context, not latch on to a word, phrase or paraphrase out of context? It stinks!
