Letter to the editor:

A good idea: Say what you mean

I have a difficult time understanding why our elected leaders constantly retract comments they make at a given time with statements like, “it was taken out of context,” or “that is not what I meant” later on.

Why not state what you mean the first time with careful thought and spin-free language?

The latest is President Barack Obama, who is supposed to be a great orator, who said on June 15, 2009, regarding ACA, “if you like your health care plan, you’ll be able to keep your plan. Period. No one will take it away.”

Now we find out that that is not true and conditions have been attached.

Mr. President, is it too much to ask for the truth, or are you under the belief, like Jack Nicholson’s Col. Jessup in “A Few Good Men,” that American people cannot handle the truth?

Or, sir, is it that you are not aware of what is in the plan that you have forced on the American people?
