Why do conservatives eat their young?
The most ardent left-wing liberal will support a middle-of-the-road Democrat if it means he can crush a Republican. However, extreme Tea Party-type conservatives will require the conservative to be “pure” (meaning extreme and unelectable) before supporting him or her.
What ever happened to “half a loaf”?
Wouldn’t a conservative, even a “Republican in name only,” be better for the Tea Party conservatives’ agenda than a liberal who’s trying to destroy it?
Instead, the Tea Party and other conservatives foment in-party fighting and run candidates with no chance of winning, which help the liberals win elections. And winning elections is the key toward moving national and local governing principles to the right.
Conservatives might think liberals are stupid, but liberals are smart enough to win more than their fair share of elections.
Conservatives need to realize that incremental progress is better than complete failure trying to achieve a total victory.
Even children recognize that.
