Republicans trying to fix our country

I got a big belly laugh out of reading Thursday’s letter to the editor “Who is left to vote Republican?” The letter writer managed to call Republicans everything except spawn of Satan.

Republicans are trying to address long-term structural problems in America’s budget. Democrats like Harry Reid continually bury their heads in the sand knowing that they’ll be long gone when the promises they make can no longer be kept and we are facing fiscal collapse.

Democrats love dependency. That’s why every program they pass (Social Security, food stamps, Medicare) creates more of it. They want you dependent on the government so you’ll keep voting for them. It’s all about power, not the good of the country or the prosperity of the citizens.

Also consider:

• A higher minimum wage would be an entry-level job killer. Teen unemployment is already in double digits; we don’t need policies that will make it higher.

• Social Security is facing long-term actuarial issues that must be addressed or it will bankrupt the nation. Baby boomers are retiring and Social Security receipts are declining. In its current form, Social Security is not sustainable.

• Medicare is also on life support and must be addressed soon.

As much as the letter writer would like to ignore the facts, the gravy train and handouts cannot continue indefinitely.

Adults use foresight and try to address things before they become problems.

Republicans are the adults in Congress.
