Letter to the editor:

No insurance? Pay your own way

Regarding the opinion on the right to refuse health care by A.J. Maimbourg in the Oct. 19 issue of the Sun.

While I agree that we should have the right to refuse health care insurance, I think that should a person elect to refuse insurance, a condition should be agreed in writing and signed to by the person rejecting the coverage and submitted to all government agencies stating that because they are rejecting health care insurance, should they need medical care, all costs of said care are their total responsibility. So unless they have cash or a valid credit card or other means to pay for service, no service will be provided by any private, federal, state or local government facility to them.

It is time we stop paying for people who do not take advantage of medical insurance available, who instead go to a government provider for service that taxpayers end up paying for.
