Letter to the editor:

One’s joy may be another’s tears

I will never forget that exact moment on Nov. 4, 2008, when the world heard the announcement that Barack Obama had won the election. I, like millions of others, was beaming with pride and excitement of immense proportions. Our hearts filled with happiness, and our eyes filled with tears of joy. I will treasure and cherish those moments and hold those memories close to my heart. That is when what some may believe an impossible dream became a reality.

In 2012, the American people were determined to make their voices heard. I thought we stood together in unity as our prayers that President Obama would be re-elected for a second term came true.

Over time, I’ve learned that people harbor an intense level of emotion, anger, hostility and passion about their political, ideological and philosophical differences.

Today, I start my day reading the Las Vegas Sun over a cup of coffee and then checking comments on the letters to the editor. I hope that I can continue my morning routine for many years to come. The Sun has been a very special start to my day.
