Letter to the editor:

Preparing youths for a great future

Teachers face a lot adversity in public schools today, but we shouldn’t overlook the special things about our profession. Freshmen recently experienced their first day of high school. We urged them to remember those firsts and make the most of the opportunities to learn, to enjoy, to experience, to share (but not their homework)!

Every day will bring seniors closer to the end of a unique four-year period in their lives. It can be a magical time of dramatic moments, huge victories and crushing defeats. We have the opportunity to help shape those experiences and, more important, those young adults.

Please do not mistake our fight against six years of no-cost-of-living raises as bitterness, because we love what we do.

P.S.: Parents, please consider checking your cellphone records to see how much your children are passing notes during class (texts), because it is a lot harder to catch them than when we were kids.
