Letters to the Editor:

Beastiality bill deserves support

It’s a sensitive subject, but having sex with animals in Nevada is still surprisingly legal.

Time to change that, and law enforcement isn’t arguing. Officials turned out in full support at a hearing on AB 391, which would make it a crime to engage in sexual relations with animals.

If the measure becomes law, those found guilty would face incarceration and fines, and would be required to undergo psychiatric evaluation. They also would have to surrender ownership of animals in their possession. That seems fair.

According to the Humane Society of the United States, bestiality is a serious crime that is tracked by the FBI, as it is among the top indicators of potential child abuse.

I cannot imagine a more helpless victim than an animal or a child. I hope readers will contact their representatives to urge them to pass this important bill which warns would-be perpetrators not to victimize animals.
