Letter to the editor:

Trump echoes Nazi leader

What were some of the tactics Adolf Hitler used to gain control of the German people?

1. He gained control of the courts, similar to Donald Trump, attacking jurists such as the judge handling the Trump University case and the judges who ruled on his immigration ban.

2. Hitler repeatedly attacked the press, similar to Trump constantly making the media the enemy and emphasizing the false news angle.

3. Hitler believed that the public was more susceptible to big lies than small ones.

Trump echoes this with issues such as his claim that he won the popular vote, and the birther issue.

4. Forming youth groups and getting the young to believe in his causes. Remember speaking at the Boy Scout Jamboree and getting the youths to boo President Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton?

5. Hitler hired propaganda specialists such as Joseph Goebbels. Trump hired Steve Bannon and Steve Miller to help develop an agenda and to help implement it.

6. Hitler criticized groups that didn’t fit his description of the ideal German. Trump speaks against minority groups such as Hispanics, Muslims, African-Americans and others, and openly made fun of a disabled reporter,

7. Hitler attracted radical groups and gained their complete support.

Trump would appear to be attracting radical groups by somewhat defending white supremacists and the KKK, gaining applause from David Duke and other leaders of these groups. Trump also expressed support for the “culture” of the South, calling for the preservation of statues promoting individuals such as Robert E. Lee, who tried to destroy the United States.

I am not saying Adolf Hitler is a Donald Trump hero, but the above examples do illustrate an interesting comparison. It is very important that the powers that be are alert to his tactics and his possible plans.
