Letters to the Editor:

Where is Laxalt on gun issue?

According to research by the Center for American Progress, in Nevada a person is killed with a gun every 20 hours. The Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence gave Nevada an F grade for the strength of its gun laws in 2015, a rating mainly based on our loose background check laws.

In November 2016, Nevadans voted to expand background checks on all gun sales. This vote proved that though Nevadans still believe in the Wild West gunslinger mentality, we want common-sense gun laws to be passed.

After the election and a check with the FBI, Nevada Attorney General Adam Laxalt decided that despite what Nevadans wanted the background check law could not be implemented.

For a while I wondered why he did this, but then I remembered that he appeared in commercials opposing background checks on all gun sales. Recently, he spoke at this year’s NRA convention in Atlanta.

Now it makes sense. He will not press to implement the laws Nevadans voted for because it would most likely go against the special interests groups that fund his campaigns.

Adam Laxalt is showing that he would rather help the NRA narrative instead of saving the lives of Nevadans. How can we ever believe that he has the interest of Nevadans at heart?
