Letters to the Editor:

Polluters triumph under Trump

Presidents typically use their first 100 days in office to work toward a better future. Unfortunately, President Donald Trump has taken a different approach — he has used them to rig the system for corporate polluters at the expense of families like mine.

Since taking office, the president and Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt have moved to eliminate important public health protections, including limits against dangerous pollutants like smog, mercury, arsenic and methane. On top of that, Trump is working to dismantle limits on carbon pollution from power plants and has proposed cutting the EPA’s budget to the bone.

We need strong environmental safeguards to protect us from pollution and climate change. That’s why I support Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto’s efforts to oppose Trump’s unprecedented actions.

Nevadans want action on climate change. We want clean air and water that is safe to drink. And we want the Trump administration to hold polluters accountable. Cortez Masto as shown herself to be a strong advocate for our environment and Nevada families. She knows that our health — not the interests of polluters — always comes first.
