LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Laxalt’s opinions not consistent

Here is Adam Laxalt on the Supreme Court ruling for Masterpiece Cake Shop and against a gay couple’s desire to have a cake made for their wedding: “The cake maker was entitled to a neutral and respectful consideration of his claims. ... I applaud the court’s decision. ... State hostility to religious viewpoints cannot be squared with our Constitution.”

Here is Laxalt’s office’s statement on the judge’s ruling for Alvogen asking the courts to block the use of its drug midazolam from being used to kill people: In its 64-page appeal, the deputy solicitor general, Jordon Smith, states: “It is easy to see where this road leads — the chef of the last meal could stop an execution. Makers of syringes could follow Alvogen’s lead and block executions.” In this appeal, they seek to eliminate a company’s choice about how and for what purpose the product is being used and any conscientious objections they may have about the use of their product.

So is this trying to have his cake and eat it too? Or is this simply amorality? This is not a quality we need in a Nevada governor.
