A man who Metro Police say smothered his baby girl until she was unconscious is accused in her early Monday death.

Cash Ballew, 26, turned himself in to police hours after the incident and was booked at the Clark County Detention Center on one count of murder, police said Tuesday.

Investigators learned that Ballew had allegedly “smothered the child to get her to stop crying,” police said. When she became unconscious, the parents called 911.

Officers were dispatched about 5 a.m. to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center in relation to a suspicious death of a 2-month-old girl, police said. Further details, including where the fatal incident occurred, were not immediately available.

Ballew is the second Las Vegas man accused in the death of his baby girl.

Eric Chu, 31, is facing a murder charge in connection to the Jan. 24 death of 10-month-old Jordyn.

Police allege Jordyn died from injuries they say Chu inflicted upon her. Chu fled to Chicago where he was arrested on Jan. 26.
