Letter to the editor:

Modern GOP needs a detox?

When I was a Republican, I relished being a member of a great political institution whose foundation was created by such political icons as Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt, Dwight Eisenhower and Ronald Reagan. Unfortunately, the current leadership have become infected with the T-virus of “protect and defend” the president, Donald Trump. To save the party, radical measures must be taken.

One possible method is to put the party into an induced political coma while cures are formulated. During this period, bad actors should be relieved of party affiliation, and reasonable party leadership must be engaged in grooming new candidates.

To avoid relinquishing control to the other party, responsible party members should take the T-virus antidote by changing party affiliation or by actively supporting nonpartisan candidates. Conversion to and supporting of nonpartisan candidates is a viable solution during recovery in this trying detoxification period.
