Who cares about mentally ill Nevadans?
In a nutshell, no one except professional caregivers, the National Alliance on Mental Illness and the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance.
Nevada is 51st in the nation for care of those with mental illnesses. Yet when a shooter snuffs out more than 50 lives, the National Rifle Association calls for better screening of gun purchasers to eliminate those with mental illness.
The blame for mass shootings seems to always fall upon the shoulders of those with mental illnesses. Given that, Nevada should surely respond with better mental health care. But no. The response has been to cut the workforce at the state-run Rawson-Neal Psychiatric Hospital. Makes sense. All shooters come on to shooter-friendly Nevada.
