LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Letter: Kids deserve better security

I recently attended a school mock trial, in a downtown courtroom, where my grandson acted as a defense attorney. I went into the Regional Justice Center by the only entrance available to the public and was given a good look-over by security. It does not take an expert to reason that a single entry at all schools, with a security check of each individual coming through the door, would deter any person from entering with a weapon.

This lack of common sense is the cause of the deaths at the school in Santa Fe, Texas. Dimitrios Pagourtzis was able to walk into the school with a shotgun and a handgun. The school has a resource officer, but obviously he was not at the door where the shooter entered.

Congress, in conjunction with the state legislatures, should enact legislation to make it mandatory for all schools to have a single means of entry, even though it may cause some delay to the school day.

It is better for students and school personnel to get to school 15 minutes earlier than to be dead forever.
