In spite of the egregious behavior President Donald Trump exhibits daily, his supporters, including most Republicans in Congress, continue to excuse everything he does, says or tweets.
Well, there’s one glaringly obvious thing he’s doing that is far more dangerous than anything else, and that is his thinly veiled attempt to discredit the Justice Department and the rule of law.
Everyone should fear this. His assault is doing huge damage to the integrity of law enforcement and the intelligence community that are trying to protect our country.
Trump refuses to accept that no one, not even the president, is above the law. And accusing the Justice Department, FBI, CIA and free press of “witch hunts” and “persecution” reveal not only his paranoia but also a tactic that has been used by corrupt dictators to take over their countries.
And yet, too many Americans are standing idly by, allowing him to get away with this outrageous behavior, refusing to see that this is no less than an attack on our democracy and the wisdom of our Founding Fathers who set up our government with three branches, equally accountable to each other.
Trump attacks, inflames, and accuses, all with the purpose of avoiding having the truth revealed. His ultimate goal is self-vindication and a continuation of his attempts to undermine the bedrock of our democracy.
