It is crucial that we wean ourselves off polluting, fossil-fueled electricity. We must develop new, clean renewables. Nothing attracts renewable energy investments like a strong renewable standard.
The Renewable Energy Promotion Initiative would strengthen Nevada’s current standard by requiring 50 percent of our electricity to come from renewable resources by 2030. Improving Nevada’s standard supports the national standard of 100 percent renewable by 2050. We must start now, and start strong, to achieve our goals.
Renewable energy options are becoming more affordable all the time. In addition to decreasing pollution, they create jobs and support the economy. We should use our bountiful sunshine, our gusty winds and our subterranean geothermal heat to create sustainable energy options for our future generations to protect and preserve our planet.
Nevadans should sign the petition to get this stronger Renewable Portfolio Standard on the ballot so we can all vote on it in November and lead the way to sustainable living in our nation.
