Letter to the editor:

Pruitt obviously wrong for EPA

Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt is charged with protecting Americans’ health and our environment.

He sued the EPA 14 times before taking the job. That should have been a red flag. But, he was appointed anyway. His disdain for the agency he is supposed to lead has become more and more apparent. He has had many ethical violations, supported budget cuts to his agency, and attempted to roll back regulations.

Now he is moving ahead to change the cost-benefit calculations underpinning a broad range of the EPA’s health and environmental safeguards. He is radically distorting scientific and economic data to downplay the dangers of pollutants and the benefits of safety regulations. The Office of Management and Budget found that for every dollar spent complying with safeguards, Americans receive benefits between $2 and $12.

Pruitt’s actions diminish the rules governing air, water, solid waste, chemicals and climate change. Pruitt’s actions put Americans at risk.

America needs to remove Pruitt from the EPA.
