LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Guns must be taken seriously

I am in favor of weapon searches in schools. I don’t think there is concern about racial profiling, as some might.

I come from a family of hunters. We were taught respect for weapons of any kind. My sons attended hunter safety programs conducted by the Nevada Department of Wildlife. Growing up, they had toy guns, BB guns, and water guns, which were not used destructively.

The Clark County School District could and should begin weapons safety education in elementary school. I also feel more parents should take the time to educate their children about the damage a gun can cause. Parents should safely store any weapons they have in their homes.

These are our children, our future. Let’s educate them that guns are not toys.
